Metal Scrap Recycling: Step by Step
Various machines are used in metal recycling and non-ferrous metal recycling. Our technologies are adapted to the specific task and industry:
1. Screening
The first step in the recycling process is the separation of the input material by size and nature. For example, our BIVITEC flip-flow screens are used here, which screen even difficult-to-screen materials like shredded metal without clogging thanks to their dynamic screen mats. For coarser separation cuts, circular vibrating screens are used, which prevent the formation of clogging particles and enable reliable pre-screening.
2. Light Material Separation
Light materials such as paper and plastics can impair aluminum recycling and metal processing and must therefore be reliably removed. Binder+Co has developed the BREEZER light material separator for this purpose. Using an air stream, it selectively separates materials. The machine can be installed directly after the coarse material discharge of a screening machine, ensuring efficient material separation before the next process step.
3. Sorting
After pre-processing, the materials are sorted with high precision using our CLARITY sorting systems. Innovative sensors and classification algorithms are used here – always adapted to your task. For example, optical cameras can separate different materials based on optical parameters. Furthermore, inductive sensors can detect metallic components for recovery, and LIBS sensors can classify materials into metal and alloy groups based on chemical analysis. Thanks to AI technologies, we can overcome challenges that were previously considered unsolvable. We can also master tasks that were previously only possible through human perception.
4. Cleaning
To optimize process stability and product quality, metal particles are freed from impurities and adhesions to optimize the quality of recycled metals. Attrition machines are used for this purpose, which dissolve agglomerates and efficiently clean particles. For example, in e-waste recycling, this results in an end product that meets the highest purity requirements and can be reused directly.
Buyers of Metal Recyclate
Typical buyers of our customers include smelters and foundries in the aluminum and copper sectors, steel mills, and manufacturers of special alloys. These industries require metal recyclates that are almost free of impurities to meet production requirements. Our technologies ensure these high purity levels through precise separation and sorting technologies that reliably sort out even the smallest foreign substances and minimize losses. This way, we help ensure that recycled materials can be seamlessly integrated into the industrial value chain.
